Tips to Save on Prescriptions

#pharmacy/ prescriptions

Prescription medicines can get expensive fast. These straightforward tips help you pay less without skipping the care you need.

Use In-network Pharmacies

Always fill your prescriptions at an in-network pharmacy. Picking the right one can make a big difference in how much you pay. Before you visit the doctor, check your pharmacy network. You can log in to your member portal, click the Pharmacy link on the right side of the portal home page, and use the pharmacy search tool to find in-network pharmacies near you.

You can also contact our Pharmacy Benefit Manager, RealRx, by calling 855-885-7695 to make sure you know what pharmacies in your area are in network.

Get a 90-Day Supply or Home Delivery

For medicines you take every day—like those for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or diabetes—your benefits may let you get a 90-day supply instead of a 30-day one. This is often less expensive, since there’s a dispensing fee every time you fill a prescription. You can pick it up at certain retail pharmacies or have it delivered right to your door.

Talk to Your Doctor or Pharmacist

If a prescription costs too much, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about other, comparable options. They can look at your formulary (drug list) and help find a similar medication that works just as well but costs less.

Choose Generic Drugs

Generic drugs usually cost less than brand-name medications, but they work the same and are just as safe. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if a generic version (or another lower-cost option) is right for you.

Know Your Drug’s Tier

Your plan sorts covered drugs into different “tiers” or levels. The lower the tier, the less you usually pay. To see the tier for your medicine, log in to your member account and search for it. You’ll see the tier in the information for the medication. Knowing this helps you and your doctor pick the most affordable option that works for your health.

Use our $0 Prescription List

If you have a condition that could be managed effectively with a medication from our $0 prescription list, talk to  your doctor or pharmacist.  They can help you adjust your medication(s) so you can be confident you’re taking the right one for you.

These small steps can add up to real savings. The most important thing is getting the medicine you need to stay healthy. Always work with your doctor on any changes.
